Michigan Baja Racing is a student team at UofM that competes in Baja SAE. I joined the team this year and act as a machinist for the team. During my time on the team, I have accrued hundreds of hours of TIG welding and machine tool experience.
Winter Baja 2023
In addition to nearly freezing to death, I drove one of MBR’s cars at Winter Baja 2023 in Houghton, Michigan earlier this year.
Adventures in Welding
A big part of Baja SAE is the complex roll cage that makes up the structure of the cars. This is joined together with TIG welds. As a result, I have spent a large amount of time designing and executing welded frame sections, such as the grill shown above and the car stand to the left.
Machining
In addition to welding, I have also made over 50 machined parts this year for the car on both mills and lathes.
